TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY DUBLIN GYM APP

Designing a motion graphics video advertisement for the new gym app at my college, Technological University Dublin, was an exciting and rewarding project. The goal was to create an engaging video that not only showcased the app’s features but also encouraged students to get active and involved with the gym facilities on campus.

Concept Development

The first step involved brainstorming ideas that would resonate with the student body. I wanted to emphasize both the app’s functionality and the overall benefits of fitness and wellbeing. I decided to focus on the theme of “Empower Your Fitness Journey,” highlighting how the app could help students manage their workouts, track progress, and connect with friends.

Storyboarding

Once I had the concept, I created a storyboard to outline the video’s flow. It included key scenes such as:

  1. Introduction of the gym app with vibrant visuals.
  2. Demonstration of its features like workout scheduling, class bookings, and progress tracking.
  3. Testimonials from students who have found success using the app.
  4. A call-to-action encouraging viewers to download the app.

Visual Design

With the storyboard in hand, I moved on to designing the visuals. I chose a vibrant color palette that reflected the university’s branding, using shades of blue and green to evoke energy and vitality. I created playful illustrations of students engaging in various workouts, which brought a dynamic feel to the video.

Animation

For the animation process, I used Adobe After Effects that allowed for smooth transitions and a professional finish. I animated the app interface to show how easy it was to navigate through different features. Incorporating upbeat music that matched the energetic vibe of the visual elements helped to keep the engagement levels high.

To design a motion graphic video for Primark as a public relations tool to encourage online shopping, I focused on creating an engaging, visually appealing, and informative experience that resonated with the target audience while promoting the brand’s values and online shopping platform. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

1. Understanding the Brand & Objective

  • Brand Identity: Primark is known for offering affordable, stylish clothing. It emphasizes convenience, trendiness, and value. This brand identity was central to shaping the tone and aesthetics of the video.
  • Objective: The goal was to inspire customers to shop online by highlighting ease of access, exclusive online offers, and the seamless shopping experience that Primark provides through its website.

2. Target Audience Research

  • Primark’s customers are diverse, from young adults to families, looking for trendy, affordable fashion. Therefore, the tone needed to appeal to a broad audience while maintaining an energetic, fun vibe.
  • I also ensured the messaging catered to both seasoned online shoppers and those who may be more hesitant about purchasing online.

4. Designing the Motion Graphics

  • Color Palette & Style: I used Primark’s brand colors—bright, vibrant tones—to ensure the video was visually consistent with their established brand identity. A clean, modern aesthetic helped convey the simplicity and convenience of shopping online.
  • Animation Flow: Smooth transitions and motion effects kept the viewer’s attention without overwhelming them. For example, text highlighting deals appeared with dynamic motion, while product images were shown through quick, snappy transitions.
  • Typography: Bold, modern fonts were chosen for readability and impact, especially during the CTA section, where I ensured the website URL and offers were clear and attention-grabbing.
  • Iconography: Simple, intuitive icons were used to depict easy navigation on the website (like shopping cart, search bar, product categories). These icons made the message clear and accessible.
  • Music & Sound Design: An upbeat, catchy background track kept the energy high throughout the video, and sound effects were synchronized with key visual transitions, adding emphasis to each action.

5. Video Structure & Duration

  • The video was kept concise (30-45 seconds) to ensure maximum engagement, especially on platforms like social media where viewers have limited attention spans.
  • I made sure the video flowed naturally from one scene to the next, ensuring the story of convenience and savings came across seamlessly.

6. Testing & Feedback

  • Before finalizing, I showed the video to a small focus group from Primark’s target demographic to gauge reactions and fine-tune the messaging. I adjusted the visuals and timing based on feedback to make the video even more compelling.

7. Distribution Strategy

  • The video was tailored for various digital platforms, including social media, the Primark website, and online advertisements. For platforms like Instagram and TikTok, shorter clips or teasers were also created to drive traffic to the full video.

8. Outcome & Impact

  • The video successfully communicated Primark’s value proposition of affordability, convenience, and style. It helped drive engagement on social media and increased web traffic, encouraging more customers to explore online shopping and take advantage of exclusive offers. The motion graphics created a vibrant, memorable experience that reinforced Primark’s brand identity and motivated viewers to make a purchase.

Through this motion graphic video, I was able to blend creativity with strategic communication, delivering a visually stunning piece that not only entertained but also effectively promoted Primark’s online shopping experience.

METAL2THEMASSES

To create and edit the “Metal2Themasses” on stage video, aimed at showcasing Irish bands in their live performances in the lead-up to playing at the Bloodstock Metal Festival, I focused on capturing the raw energy of the bands on stage while also telling the story of their journey to the festival. The goal was to highlight the intensity of their live performances, build anticipation for Bloodstock, and emphasize the significance of this opportunity. Here’s a detailed breakdown of how I approached the video production and editing process:

1. Understanding the Concept & Objective

  • Objective: The primary aim was to create a dynamic video that not only showcased the energy of the Irish metal bands during their live performances but also captured the build-up to their participation in the Bloodstock Metal Festival. The video needed to showcase the intensity and passion of these bands, giving viewers a taste of what to expect at the festival.
  • Theme: The video would reflect the high-octane, rebellious spirit of the metal scene, underscoring the significance of these performances for the bands and their fans. It would also emphasize how important the opportunity to play at Bloodstock is for emerging Irish bands.

2. Pre-Production & Planning

  • Live Performance Venues: I coordinated with the participating Irish bands and their promoters to get access to their live shows leading up to Bloodstock. These shows ranged from smaller local venues to larger gigs where the bands were able to show off their stage presence.
  • Setting the Tone: I aimed to create a narrative that would focus on the live energy of the performances. This required planning to ensure that each performance captured the essence of the band, as well as the excitement and raw emotion of the live music experience.
  • Interviews & Personal Stories: I also planned to capture some brief interviews with the bands before or after their performances. These would provide context for their journey and the significance of playing at Bloodstock.

3. Filming the Live Performances

  • Capturing the Stage Energy: During each band’s performance, I filmed multiple angles to capture the full intensity of their set. This included close-up shots of the lead singers, guitarists, and drummers, as well as wider shots of the full band and the crowd’s reaction. Dynamic Angles: I used a combination of handheld shots for an up-close, gritty feel and static wide shots to establish the size of the crowd and the atmosphere of the venue. Crowd Interaction: Capturing the crowd’s reaction was crucial. I focused on moments where the audience was actively engaged with the music—headbanging, moshing, and raising their fists in the air. These moments of connection between the band and the crowd helped convey the energy of the performance. Lighting & Atmosphere: Metal shows are known for their dramatic lighting and atmospheric stage setups. I worked with the lighting team at each venue to ensure that the lighting was used effectively to add intensity to the footage, often using silhouettes, strobe effects, and colored gels to highlight the dramatic nature of the performances. Behind-the-Scenes: Between sets, I captured candid moments of the bands prepping for their performances—tuning instruments, warming up, interacting with fans, and gearing up for their big moment on stage. These moments added a personal touch to the video, showcasing the bands’ preparation and dedication.

4. Editing the Video

  • Pacing & Energy: I edited the video to match the fast-paced, high-energy nature of the metal genre. Each live performance was showcased in an exciting, engaging way, with rapid cuts between shots of the band playing and the crowd reacting. The pacing of the video reflected the intensity of the music, building excitement toward the eventual climax of their Bloodstock performance. Synching Music & Visuals: I synced the footage closely with the rhythm and beats of the music to enhance the visceral impact of the live performances. Quick cuts and zoom-ins were used during intense moments, creating a feeling of chaos and energy. Highlighting Key Moments: I chose to focus on powerful moments during each band’s performance—epic guitar solos, powerful drum breakdowns, and impactful vocal moments. These highlights showed off each band’s musical prowess and their ability to captivate an audience. Transitions & Effects: I used fast-paced transitions like glitch effects and jump cuts, often aligning them with moments in the music where the tempo changed or when the energy peaked. This helped elevate the raw, chaotic feel of metal. Incorporating Interviews: Between performance clips, I interspersed short, impactful interview snippets where the bands talked about the significance of playing at Bloodstock. These interviews helped build the story, showing their excitement, anticipation, and the hard work that went into getting there. Text Overlays: To provide context, I added text overlays introducing each band, their musical influences, and their journey. I also included information about the Metal2Themasses competition, explaining how it helped them reach the Bloodstock stage.

5. Final Edits & Enhancements

  • Color Grading: I applied a dark and moody color grade to reflect the metal genre’s aesthetics. Deep shadows and high contrast were used to give the footage a gritty, raw look that matched the intensity of the live shows.
  • Text & Branding: I integrated the Bloodstock logo and Metal2Themasses branding throughout the video, reinforcing the connection between the bands and the festival. A call to action was included at the end of the video, encouraging viewers to follow the bands and support their journey to Bloodstock. Final Touches: I ensured that the video flowed smoothly from one performance to the next, with seamless transitions that kept the energy high throughout. The final video was polished but retained the rawness that makes live metal performances so thrilling.

6. Distribution & Promotion

  • Social Media Teasers: I created shorter teaser versions of the video to be shared on social media platforms, each focusing on a different band or moment from the full video. This helped build excitement and kept the audience engaged across multiple platforms. Festival Promotion: The video was shared on the official Bloodstock and Metal2Themasses social media channels, reaching a wider audience and drawing attention to the featured bands as they prepared for their performances at Bloodstock.

7. Outcome & Impact

  • The “Metal2Themasses On Stage” video successfully captured the energy and excitement of the Irish metal bands as they made their way toward their dream of performing at Bloodstock. It highlighted not only their live performances but also their dedication and passion for the metal community.
  • Fans were able to see these bands in action, and the video helped build anticipation for their performances at Bloodstock, garnering support from both local and international audiences. The video increased visibility for the Metal2Themasses initiative and the Irish metal scene as a whole, solidifying the bands’ presence in the global metal community.

Through this approach, I was able to create a high-impact video that showcased both the energy of the live performances and the emotional journey of the bands leading up to one of the most significant events in the metal world.

Furthr BRAND INTRODUCTION

 
 

I was contracted by Furthr VC, an innovative venture capital firm, to serve as a Production Assistant for the creation of their brand intro video. My role spanned both pre-production and post-production, offering me a hands-on experience across various aspects of the project.

In pre-production, I played a key role in helping organize the logistics for the shoot. This included assisting with scheduling, coordinating with vendors, securing locations, and ensuring all necessary equipment and crew members were in place. I also worked closely with the director and producer to ensure that all creative elements were aligned with the firm’s vision and brand identity.

During production, I assisted the crew on set, managing tasks like setting up equipment, facilitating communication between departments, and ensuring everything ran smoothly and on time. I also helped with any on-the-spot adjustments that were needed to ensure the filming process remained efficient.

In post-production, my responsibilities included helping to organize the footage, assisting the editors with file management, and ensuring that the final product adhered to the company’s vision. I was involved in reviewing edits, providing feedback, and supporting the post-production team in delivering a polished, professional video that captured Furthr VC’s forward-thinking approach to venture capital.

The experience was incredibly rewarding, as I had the opportunity to contribute to a project that showcased Furthr VC’s innovative brand in a compelling and dynamic way.
